So the Friday before the storm I was walking out of my office and I said to the secretary the same way I say every Friday, “Bye, Paula, have a good weekend. I’ll see you Monday.” She replied, “Well, MAYBE.”
I turned around and asked her what she was talking about, the first clue that the storm was on its way.
I have been absolutely overwhelmed by the number of messages in my inbox, people offering to help. I have very limited access to the internet, only by returning to a library that will be closed till Tuesday. I’m bewildered. It’s surreal. I know many missing people. Last night, my sister, brother, and I took a drive to the grocery store and the shelves were empty. No bread, no powdered milk. I took the last bottle of juice. I asked the worker if they were expecting to get more food. He looked at me blankly and said, “The truck was due here hours ago.”
The library is closing though and I have to go. I’ll update again soon.
Also, Michael is okay. He’s working rescue and cleanup in the lower Mississippi region.
